Professor Dr. Helmut Jungwirth
Helmut Jungwirth's current research focuses on areas in which he is also actively engaged as a science communicator: hands-on-labs, science cabaret and social media.
Helmut Jungwirth earned his doctorate in microbiology at the University of Graz. Following research stays at the University of Tübingen (as an Erwin Schrödinger Fellow) and the Medical University of Vienna, he completed his habilitation in molecular biology in 2009. In 2016, he was appointed as Austria’s first university professor of science communication.
He founded the brand 'Mitmachlabore Graz' at the University of Graz and has been a member of the award-winning science cabaret 'Science Busters' since 2015.
