Focus on Science Communication: Second round of “SCIENCE GOES SOCIAL”

Helmut Jungwirth encouraged participants to actively participate in shaping the workshop

Helmut Jungwirth encouraged participants to actively participate in shaping the workshop

On 12 November, our training series “SCIENCE GOES SOCIAL: Your research in the new media” continued with an interactive workshop by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Helmut Jungwirth. At the centre of attention was the fundamental question of why science communication is necessary and meaningful – for research, for society and for researchers themselves.

On the basis of the “Five Ws of science communication” Helmut Jungwirth showed what tasks science communication fulfils and what potential social media opens up in the process. Best practice examples illustrated various ways of preparing research content for the digital target group.

The workshop was deliberately designed to be dialogue-oriented: In group work phases and open discussion rounds, the participants reflected on their own role in knowledge transfer, developed ideas for possible content and exchanged experiences from their previous social media practice. Over the course of the workshop, a lively small network was created that strengthened the exchange of communication approaches beyond the event itself.

The “Science goes Social” training series will be continued on 26 November 2025, taking a look at the internal perspective of social media work at the University of Graz.
